Many modern websites incorporate digital or interactive content that runs through Adobe Flash Player, which can be installed as an add-on to your web browser. For Mac users, Adobe Flash Player is fully compatible with Safari, the standard web browser on Mac systems. By keeping your Flash Player up to date, Flash content will always display correctly in your browser.
- Launch the Safari application on your Mac computer.
-
Step 2
Go to the Adobe website and click on the “Get Adobe Flash Player” link.
-
Step 3
Click on the “Agree and Install Now” button to begin downloading the Adobe Flash Player installation program. When the download finishes, the installer will automatically open.
-
Step 4
Quit the Safari application. Adobe Flash Player cannot be updated while the web browser is open.
-
Step 5
Hit “Continue,” choose to update the program on your main hard drive, and then hit “Continue” again.
-
Step 6
Press “Install” to begin updating Adobe Flash Player. The process should take less than 5 minutes to complete.
-
Step 7
Hit “Finish” and then restart the Safari web browser.
Many web pages and applications require a special program for them to play on your smart phone or computer. If this program known as flash is restricted from your device you will not be able to play the game or view the web page. Many times people do not even realize they are using flash on a web page but when they try to look at the same page on a smart phone like an iPhone they are restricted since flash is not allowed on the Apple iPhone, iPad and many other devices. This instructional article will show you how to tell if you are using a web page or online game that requires flash.
- The first thing you need to do to tell if a web page or online game uses flash is go to the web page or game online.
-
Step 2
Now you will need to right click over the portion of the game or page that has animation (a moving picture). This will pull up a menu box.
-
Step 3
In the menu box look at the bottom entry. If it says about Adobe Flash Player than it does play flash and requires Adobe to run the page or game correctly. If it does not say Adobe than you are good to go, the web page or game does not require flash.
-
Step 4
Make sure you check every animated box on the web page or game, not all graphics may use the flash player. Also just because something is not moving all the time does not mean it will work without the adobe flash player. Just right click on different parts of the web page or game and you will see the Adobe link pop up on the menu box if it is there.
-
Step 5
Repeat this for any web page or game you would like to check to see if the video uses flash player.
To view certain features on websites, such as embedded videos and animated menus, you may need to install the latest version of Adobe Flash Player. Follow these steps in order to install the flash player plugin on Firefox in Linux.
- Visit the Adobe Flash Player download site. See the Resources section below for a link.
-
Step 2
Select a version to download from the drop-down menu. For Ubuntu, choose tar.gz for Linux.
-
Step 3
Click “Agree and Install now.” Choose a location to download the file.
-
Step 4
Once the download is complete, right-click the file and select “Extract here.” The contents will be extracted into a folder with the same name. Open the folder.
-
Step 5
Close all browser windows. Double-click “flashplayer-installer” and choose “Run in Terminal.” Answer “Y” to install.
-
Step 6
Open Firefox and click “Tools” and “Add-ons” and select “Plugins.” If your installation was successful, you should see the Flash Player in your list of installed plugins.
Adobe now lets you download beta version of its new Flash Player 10.1. This player utilizes the processing power of you graphics card instead of completely relying on CPU. This means faster, smoother now popular HD movies and clips on such websites as YouTube, Vimeo, Hulu and many others. Please consult Adobe website for complete list of supported graphics cards (not all are supported). This guide is based on ATI Radeon HD3200 on-board graphics card with Windows Vista 32 bit.
- Download flash player from the Adobe labs. There are two packages to download for Windows: plug-in and active-x. Save them on your hard drive but do not install them just yet.
-
Step 2
Uninstall present version of Flash plug-in and active-x from your computer using the Add/Remove Programs. This is the requirement that Adobe stated on their website, otherwise things may not work out.
-
Step 3
Install downloaded Flash Player packages.
-
Step 4
Restart is required.
-
Step 5
Tryout the hardware accelerated Flash video! you may want to play one particular video before the upgrade, to later compare it to accelerated playback.
Tips & Warnings
-
In case of ATI graphics card, AMD released new drivers, especially to support hardware accelerated Flash playback. So I had to download new drivers for Radeon HD3200. You need to find out if your graphics card will require the same to be able to fully benefit from new Flash Player.
-
Some people did not see major improvements. Some had their browsers crash after the upgrade.
-
So just as a precaution it is always recommended to create a restore point in Vista before upgrading drivers and software. It will be later easier to revert changes.
Adobe Flash Player is an extremely necessary tool when browsing the Internet. It enables your web browser to view files encoded in the Flash format, which includes almost anything that is streaming (especially YouTube). To install Flash Player on a computer the normal way, you must have administrator rights on your system. If you do not, it can still be installed, it’ll just take a few extra steps.
- Download the archived Flash Player plugin from the Adobe Flash website. Download the plugin to a location on your hard drive where you’ll be able to find it. The file will have a .XPI file extension.
-
Step 2
Change the .XPI file extension to read .ZIP. You can do this by right clicking the file, selecting “Rename” from the options and changing the part of the file name after the period.
-
Step 3
Extract the two files contained in the archive. You can do this by right clicking on the .ZIP file and selecting “Extract” from the list of choices. This will extract them to the directory the .ZIP file was located in.
-
Step 4
Copy the two files you’ve just extracted to your web browser’s plugins folder. For Mozilla Firefox, the folder is in the Program Files/Mozilla/Plugins folder. For Internet Explorer, it is in the Program Files/Internet Explorer/Plugins folder.
-
Step 5
Restart your web browser. To finalize the changes you’ve just made, close out of your web browser and relaunch it. After it loads, you can enjoy the Flash player.

Adobe Flash Player allows users to view videos made with Flash, a common online video format that can be viewed by both Mac and PC users. Because technology is consistently emerging, Adobe frequently updates its Flash player. Downloading an update is free, and may be required in order to watch videos online. You will need at least 128 MB of RAM available on your computer to update Flash player, and Internet Explorer version 6.0 or later for Windows XP, version 7.0 or later for Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 8.0 or later for Windows 7.
- Open Internet Explorer and navigate to Adobe’s Flash player download site.
-
Step 2
Click the download link and follow the instructions on your screen.
-
Step 3
Click “Allow” or “Install” if your security system asks if you want to download the file.
-
Step 4
Avoid running other programs while the download is going on. Flash player tests itself by showing you a brief video when the download is complete. If you do not see this video, the player has not been successfully installed and you must try the download again.
There are many Flash videos out there on the Web and you may want to record them to play on your Website. In fact, you may want to record several of them to have them play back to back. With Camtasia, you can record whatever is going on on your desktop; then you can convert that recording into whatever kind of audio or video file you prefer.
Recording the Flash video
-
Step 1
Pull the Flash file up on your desktop. This can be as simple as accessing a Web page or running a Flash file on another piece of software.
-
Step 2
Run Camtasia Recorder. Click the red button underneath “Capture.” You are now recording everything that happens on your desktop.
-
Step 3
Go back to your Flash file and start the video. Some Flash files do not require that you actually start them because they start automatically. Do not do other activities on your desktop while the Flash video is running. Remember Camtasia is recording everything happening on your desktop.
-
Step 4
Stop Camtasia. Once the Flash video has run its course, go back to the Camtasia screen and select “Capture > Stop.”
-
Step 5
Save the file generated by Camtasia. Camtasia will prompt you to save the .avi video file. Navigate to the appropriate directory then give the file a name. You have just recorded a Flash file and made it into a video file.
Tips & Warnings
-
Camtasia enables you to edit and then re-produce the file you recorded in any video or audio format. This means you can change the original Flash video without actually having the Flash file itself.
-
Be careful not to publish someone else’s work as your own.
